About DR Simpson Gallery

Dawn R. SimpsonMy name is Dawn R. Simpson and drsimpsongallery is dedicated primarily to my photography. But as I try new things (currently painting and crocheted items), they'll probably end up here too.

I have loved taking pictures for as long as I can remember. There are very few things that can make me happier than being behind my camera. The first camera I remember having was an old Kodak with 126 film. I guess I first started taking pictures to protect my family from the headless shots that my Gram always took (There's a fun picture of her on her 96th birthday in the "People" gallery.)

I still have pictures I took at the zoo when I was on a first grade field trip. But, of course, there were some utter failures. The color picture on this page is one of my favorites. I took this of my brother when he came to pick me up from a birthday party at McDonald's. At least I think it's my brother...

For those that want to have something to hold over my head ... I keep this picture in the same photo album with my Dukes of Hazzard trading cards (I was a Bo fan) and my mimeographed letter from Bob Debardelaben (For you Raleigh-ites, remember him?...the weatherman BEFORE Greg Fishel). I guess maybe I should purge a few things, but that's unlikely.

Anyway, I eventually moved up to a camera with 110 film and then to 35mm. I think I really started taking lots of photos with that first 35mm I got for a high school graduation present. Some of my old high school friends would love it if I broke those out. That 80s hair is something most of us have tried to forget.

Back in the days of 2mp digital cameras being considered high-tech, I moved into the digital age and found out that my photos are better now that I have the capability of editing!! I readily admit that most of my photos are Blurry Bryandigitally enhanced.

I plan on continuing to add photos as I shoot more. I've recently done my first senior portrait shoot (it's on the photo blog) and may be moving more in this direction in the future. If you're interested in a shoot, contact me through the form on the contact page and we'll see what we can work out.

As far as my personal photography goes, I mostly want to be able to add to my travel gallery! At the top of the list are Santorini, Greece; Sydney, Australia; London; and Ireland...no plans as of yet, but the dreams are in motion

I have two blogs that are linked to this site. One is a photo blog. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but sometimes I think that's just not enough. Sometimes hearing a little more about where/how/why a picture is taken is fun. Sometimes I just have to explain myself. ;)

The other blog is a vegan food blog. Not only is the food vegan, but it's also soy-free and gluten free. When people find out I'm vegetarian and have dairy, egg, soy, and gluten allergies they ask, "what CAN you eat." It doesn't take long to figure out the answer to that question is, "PLENTY!"

The shop features blank greeting cards with some of my favorite photographs on them. I'm looking into the possibility of adding prints, handmade items and possibly some non-photo art as I explore some of that.
