My name is Dawn R. Simpson and drsimpsongallery is dedicated primarily to my photography. But as I try new things, they'll probably end up here too.
I have loved taking pictures for as long as I can remember. There are very few things that can make me happier than being behind my camera. The first camera I remember having was an old Kodak with 126
film. I guess I first started taking pictures to protect my family from the headless shots that Gram always took (The picture of her to the right was on her 96th birthday). I still have pictures I took at the zoo when I was on a first grade field trip. But, of course, there were some utter failures. The color picture on this page is one of my favorites. I took this of my brother when he came to pick me up from a birthday party at McDonald's (they used to do that ya know... complete with the ORIGINAL McDonald Land cookies and that orange punch)At least I think it's my brother...
For those that want to have something to hold over my head ... I keep this picture in the same photo album with my Dukes of Hazzard trading cards (I was a Bo fan) and my mimeographed letter from Bob Debardelaben (For you Raleigh-ites, remember him?...the weatherman BEFORE Greg Fishel)
Anyway, I eventually moved up to a camera with 110 film and then to 35mm. I think I really started taking lots of photos with that first 35mm I got for a high school graduation present. Back in the days of 2mp digital cameras being considered high-tech, I moved into the digital age and found out that my photos are better now that I have the capability of editing!! I readily admit that most of my photos are digitally edited/enhanced. The pictures on this site (except for one or two that were scanned from film negatives) have been taken with a Sony Mavica CD200 and a Canon Powershot IS2 (that's the one I'm using now). I hope to soon have a new SLR though :)
I plan on continuing to add photos as I shoot more and as I learn more about photography, editing, and web design. As far as my personal photography goes, I mostly want to be able to add to my travel gallery! At the top of the list are Santorini, Greece; London; and Ireland...no plans as of yet, but the dreams are in motion
The movie collection page is here mostly for my own amusement and for family and friends who like to borrow them sometimes. The collection hasn't grown much since I joined Netflix. So unless I *really* love something, don't expect many new releases! There is a wish list at the bottom for anyone just dying to buy me a present ;)
